Botox ® is the commercial name given to a product used for anti-ageing (particularly anti-wrinkle) treatments. Botox® is an abbreviation for a protein named Botulinum Toxin.
Botox is a popular anti-wrinkle treatment that is used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botox treatment involves injecting small amounts of a highly purified form of botulinum toxin, a protein that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, into specific muscles in the face. This protein paralysis muscles in order to prevent wrinkles.
We want to ensure that all our patients are fully aware of the benefits and risks associated with Botox:
Unlikely many other cosmetic treatments, Botox treatment is not surgical, so they do not require cutting, and are not invasive.
Millions of people around the world have received treatment using Botox, and have been very happy with the results of their treatments.
This can be seen as a benefit as well as a disadvantage of Botox, but it is not permanent. Typically, it lasts for 3-4 months on most people. This can be great to help decide if Botox is for you, or if you prefer to go back to how you look without it
Typical Botox procedures can be completed within 30 minutes, including initial consultation; the injections themselves only take a few minutes! This makes it really convenient to schedule the appointment at a time which suits most people (for example, lunch break or during a shopping trip)
There is no downtime with Botox. You can usually carry on with your day straight after you have had your injection. Some patients may experience minor bruising where injected; we recommend a little makeup to help cover this bruising up. We recommend avoiding any excercise for 24 hours after Botox treatment, and following the other post-treatment instructions
We expect most people to begin seeing the results of the Botox within 7 dats of completing their treatment, and for the full results to be visible around 10-14 days after treatment
If administered by a trained professional, Botox is low risk. It has been thoroughly researched and very few health risks have been found. Thames Street Dental provides Botox in Kingston by our trained Kingston Dentists.
Everyone one of us is unique, and we require unique and customised treatments for our individual aims, goals and look. Fortunately, with some dicussion with your Kingston Botox provider, we can create a Botox treatment plan to suit your needs. For example, Botox injections can be used in small amounts to gradually provide buildable results. If you have areas with deeper wrinkles, you may need more injections or more units of Botox.
However, there are also some cons to consider when it comes to Botox. We share these below:
As mentioned above, Botox treatments are not permanent. They typically last for 3-4 months for most people. Maintaining the look provided by Botox, or permanently maintaining wrinkle free skin using Botox requires topping up the Botox every 3 or 4 months.
We sometimes recommend patients return to have their Botox topped up after two weeks to help improve ther result. This often is a benefit as well as a con, as it allows for new Botox users to test Botox injections more conservatively to see how they respond to it.
We’ve all heard Botox horror stories, where Botox has caused facial expressions to be lost, or worse (excessive bruising, undesired effect/look, or adverse reactions to Botox). This is why it is important to use a trained Botox professional to administer your Botox – they understand how your muscles will react, and how to inject Botox safely, and with less risk of these causing undesired effects.
Fortunately, as mentioned above, this wouldn’t be permanent, as the Botox would wear off at some stage.
For some, Botox may seem to be expensive – especially as it requires topping up multiple times each year. We think this is similar to any healthcare routine – spending time and money on our health and beauty is important to many of us, and this cost can be worth it for our own personal satisfaction!
In a small number of cases, patients may experience side effects such as pain, swelling, and bruising at the injection site.
It’s important to consider whether Botox® is a good choice for you. Botox® is generally considered to be safe for most people, but it is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or for people who have certain medical conditions such as myasthenia gravis or a bleeding disorder. It’s important to consult a suitably trained healthcare professional before deciding to undergo the treatment.
It’s also important for patients to know that Botox is not a one-size-fits-all solution for wrinkles. While it can be effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles, it may not be the best option for everyone. Other treatments, such as dermal fillers and laser resurfacing, may be more effective for certain patients.
In conclusion, BOTOX is a popular and effective anti-wrinkle treatment that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. However, it is not a permanent solution, and it can be costly. It’s important to consult a suitably trained healthcare professional and consider all options before deciding to undergo the treatment.
